Lapland Bunting.......

Saturday 9th February 2008

Well, it was like this.....................

We were in Milford-on-Sea, standing outside a very large field of maize stubble, with the possibility of a Lapland bunting (a Hampshire rarity), somewhere??.... in that very large field of stubble!! Not a job for the faint hearted!

Lucky for us, the little bunting chose our side of the field to feed in, but just not close enough for a decent photo.

While we were there, we met a birder from Portsmouth who was digiscoping and he had some excellent results. He didn’t even have any attachments to his scope. I think that’s what we’ll have to do, buy a compact digital and just hand hold it to the scope.

Apart from the Lapland bunting we saw six Bewick’s swans on the grass at Harbridge this morning, so two more birds for the year list - the Lapland bunting being a Lifer for me :-) .

By the way, gorgeous weather here in Hampshire today and set to continue for a couple more days, so hopefully I’ll get to see some more birds...... Goshawks or Short-eared Owls would be nice......
